Irrigation and Drainage Engineering

Department of IDE established since 2017 to incorporate the Recommendation given by Fifth Dean’s committee (ICAR) regarding the strengthening of teaching and research in the direction of latest irrigation techniques and drainage problem of the agricultural field for improving the water productivity. This Department is mainly engaged in teaching to undergraduate and post graduate students.

The research project based on local and future needs of the farmers, field engineers and entrepreneurs are given to the final year undergraduate and postgraduate students as a part of their academic research work. Department is having Irrigation Laboratory and Drainage Laboratory to provide practical knowledge to the students and to demonstrate and organize training to farmers and field engineers, entrepreneurs etc.  Many farmers, women and local peoples, NGO and others often visit the department to gain knowledge of different soil and water engineering aspects.

Goals & Objectives

  • Academic Excellence: Conduct high-quality educational programs to produce graduates equipped with theoretical and practical expertise in irrigation and drainage engineering. Foster interdisciplinary collaboration to enhance learning and innovation in the field.
  • Research and Innovation: Undertake research in precision irrigation, drainage system design, water resource management, and climate-resilient agriculture. Develop and promote innovative practices and technologies for smart irrigation and drainage solutions.
  • Community and Industry Engagement: Provide consultancy services to agricultural industries, government agencies, and financial institutions to optimize irrigation and drainage systems. Collaborate with farmers, NGOs, and local stakeholders to implement water-saving practices and improve crop water productivity.
  • Capacity Building and Outreach: Organize training programs, workshops, and seminars to disseminate knowledge on modern irrigation and drainage techniques. Equip local communities with tools and techniques to improve water management and productivity in agriculture.
  • Sustainable Development: Promote water-efficient irrigation systems to conserve resources and ensure sustainability in agricultural practices. Address environmental challenges, including water logging, salinity, and soil degradation, through innovative drainage solutions.
