About the Department
The department of fruit science was established in April 2018. Department offer various courses for cultivation of tropical and sub tropical fruit crops. Department also teaching the course related to propagation, nursery management, orchard and estate management as well as breeding of fruit crops for undergraduate students. Department provides farm and lab facility where students can be given practical exposure. In an area of 7.92 ha of Horticultural Research Farm of land, fruit orchards like sapota, guava (HDP) custard apple, jamun, pomegranate, sweet orange, sandal wood and bijora etc. for practical exposure of undergraduate students and for demonstration of farmer. Department is also involved in development of new fruit crop orchard, canopy management, high-density planning and economical technology for fruit crops production. Department also provides facilities like land, labour and materials required to PG students and departmental faculty to conduct their research on the farm. Department also organizing different extension activities such as workshops, seminars, training programmes, farmer day and delivering talks/lectures as well as telephonic guidance.

The farmers of Middle Gujarat Agro climatic zone growing banana (cv. Grand Naine) are advised to apply recommended dose of fertilizer (10 kg FYM and 300-100-200 g NPK per plant) and AAU PGPR bio NPK consortium @ 1 ml/plant near root zone after one month of planting. OR Recommended dose of fertilizer (10 kg FYM and 300-100-200 g NPK per plant) and AAU PGPR bio NPK consortium @ 1 ml/plant after one month of planting along with drenching of NOL @ 500 l/ha near root zone of plant each at 30 and 45 days after planting for getting higher yield and net return. |

The farmers of Middle Gujarat Agro climatic zone are recommended to grow spider lily at spacing of 60 x 60 cm with recommended dose of fertilizer (20 t FYM, 300 + 200 + 200 kg NPK/ha ) and 2 spray of gibberellic acid @ 200 mg/l of water for getting higher yield and net return. Apply spray of gibberellic acid at 45 and 60 days after planting of bulbs in first year and from second year onwards, spray at 45 and 60 days after cutting of leaves.
