Presently, the department is headed by Dr. A. S. Shaikh. The entire faculty are giving their best to achieve the excellence in the field of education, research and extension. Agricultural Economics allows farmers and entrepreneurs to make rational choices for short term and long term financial benefits. It also helps to learn how to manage effectively scare and finite resources such as land, labor, money and time. It supports farmers with varying level of financial literacy which allows them to effectively manage their own finance and even advice others in financial management and planning.

The Department of Agricultural Economics, B.A. College of Agriculture, AAU, Anand is engaged in undergraduate and post graduate educational programes along with six research schemes under different budget heads. The department contributes in creating human resources in the field of agricultural economics as well as giving inputs/policy implications to the developmental activities through different research findings. The findings and implication of the research of this department are useful directly for farmers as well as indirectly for formulating government policy. The department is also involved in different extension activities such as organizing seminars, training programes and delivering talks/lectures at different institutes.

• Imparting education to under-graduate and post-graduate students.
• Providing guidance to post graduate students for their thesis research work.
• Counseling of students for their competitive examination and personality development.
• Providing guidance to farmers/exporters/entrepreneurers in area of export to enhance global trade.
• Conducting researches useful to the farmers as well as for policy makers in deciding MSP (Minimum Support Price) on the basis of cost of cultivation data and undertaking research projects sponsored by State Government, ICAR, other agencies, etc.
• Extending extension services like- organization of seminar/workshop/training for farmers or among all interested participants.
