Soil and Water Conservation Engineering

Under this department, students are given exposures about different techniques for soil and water conservation, rainwater harvesting, degraded land reclamation, remote sensing and GIS, waste watermanagement, integrated watershed management, hydrological modeling, command area development, Etc.

The department of soil and water engineering is mainly engaged in teaching to undergraduate and postgraduate students. Besides, UGand PGprogrammes, department also offers vocational training course on “Tools and Techniques for Rainwater Harvesting”. It offers various courses like Watershed Hydrology, Soil and Water Conservation Engineering, Water Harvesting and Soil Conservation Structures, Watershed Planning and Management, Remote Sensing and GISApplications etc. to the UGand PGstudents.

The research project based on local and future needs of the farmers, field engineers and entrepreneurs are given to the final year undergraduate and postgraduate students as a part of their academic research work. Department is having GIS and Remote Sensing, Watershed, Soil and Water Conservation laboratories to provide practical knowledge to the students and also to demonstrate and organize training to farmers and field engineers, entrepreneurs etc. Many farmers, women and local peoples, NGO and others often visit the department to gain knowledge of different soil and water Conservation engineering aspects.

Objectives

  • Teaching of soil and water conservation engineering subjects to under graduate and post graduate students.
  • To develop state-of-the-art technology and web-based applications for attaining pursuit of teaching excellence
  • To evolve low cost, environmental friendly and techno-efficient water management strategies for accruing more crop per drop of water
  • To highlight the importance of water as a precious resource and to promote its conservation, reuse and recycling in agriculture and other sectors among the farmers domain
  • Transfer of developed technologies in the field of soil and water conservation engineering to the farmers of tribal region.
