: Introduction :
Anand Agricultural University is the top ranking university in India well known for quality education, research as well as extension education in the field of agriculture and allied sciences. The university has seven well developed faculties namely; Agriculture, Veterinary science and animal husbandry, Dairy science, Food processing technology & bio-energy, Agriculture engineering, Agriculture business management and Information technology in agriculture. Entrepreneurship training in Bakery, Food Processing, Poultry, Mali etc. short term academic activities run along with informal educational programmes and other extension activities.
An innovative idea of establishment of Polytechnic programmes in Agriculture engineering, Agriculture, Horticulture and Food Science and Nutrition are implemented since 2008-09 to cater the need of middle level technocrats in the field.
Globalization scenario in 21st century has changed the lifestyle of developing countries towards western including food pattern. As a result, in India, there is an increasing demand for processed food, preserved food; Ready-to-Eat (RTE), Ready-to-Cook (RTC), Ready-to-Serve (RTS), bakery products etc. are increasing in India at an alarming rate. On the other hand people becoming health conscious. Thus health food, functional food, neutracutical, food supplements, special food for infant, children, old age people, sports drinks, energy drinks etc. sectors are mushrooming among food industries. Thus there is an increasing need for the technocrats having knowledge both in Food Technology and Nutrition. To coup that need a Diploma in Food Technology and Nutrition is being introduced from 2020-21.
: Objective :
The main objective is to teach and train the secondary pass students to enable them to perform and supervise various activities in the area of Food Technology, Food Processing, Food Science, Human nutrition and dietetics etc. to spread the knowledge among the people, to earn wages, to become self employed and to get higher education in the respective fields.
