Pulse Research Station, Vadodara

Objectives

1) Pulses Research Scheme (B. H. 5007)

  • Collection, evaluation and maintenance of germplasm of mandate crops viz., midlate pigeonpea and greengram.
  • To develop varieties of above crop having high yield potential better grain quality and resistant to biotic and abiotic stresses.
  • Testing of newly developed genotypes under various environments to find out their suitability.
  • To develop location specific production technology including cropping system research, harvest and post harvest technology as well as work out organic farming practices.
  • Screening and testing of germplasm as well as promising material for various disease and insect resistance and workout effective as well as economical control measures.
  • Genetic enhancement and production technology of Pulses.

2) Strengthening of Research in Pulses (B. H. 12007)

  • To carry out basic, strategic and applied research aimed at enhancement of production and productivity of pulse crops in the stage.
  • To conduct and coordinate multidisciplinary and multi-location research to identify and isolate appropriate varietal technologies for varied agro-climatic conditions in different parts of the state.
  • Germplasm collection, evaluation, maintenance and its enhancement.
  • To hone package of practices for enhancing and sustaining production of different pulses & pulses based cropping systems with minimum deleterious impact on eco-system.
  • To produce basic nucleus or breeder seed of different varieties of pulse crops as per state and national indent.
  • To ascertain pulses as economic sustainable components under diversified cropping systems.
  • To disseminate scientific information and knowledge on pulses research and technologies to the farmers, other stake holders through training, front line demonstration, krushi mahotsav etc.
  • To develop linkages/complements with national, international and private research organization for collaborative research program rather than compete with them.
  • To provide consultancy services & undertake contractual research.

3) Genetic Enhancement and Production Technology of  Cereals, Pulses and Oil Seeds(B.H. 12963-01)

  • To carry out basic, strategic and applied research aimed at enhancement of production and productivity of pulse crops in the stage.

4) Development of Organic Farming Systems for Sustainable Crop Productivity and Quality (B.H. 12965-01)

  • Development of improved technology for organic farming.
  • Development of suitable organic farming models of important cropping systems.
  • To study the effect of organic farming on yield and quality of organic farm products as well as soil health.
  • To impart training to farmers through demonstration of technology.

5) Strengthening of Agro-meteorology at AAU (B.H. 12907)

  • Strengthening of Agro-meteorological  observations at AAU.
  • To generate data bank for Agro-meteorological  research purpose.
  • Characterization of agro-climatic zone of Gujarat.
  • To advise the farmers for forthcoming weather for appropriate crop management planning
