Department is engaged with teaching in under graduate and post graduate level and it has the Master degree as well as Doctorate degree programmes in the discipline of Agricultural economics.

- Research Activities:
Besides PG Research, the department also undertakes research on socio economic problems of the farming community of the state in general and Middle Gujarat Agro-Climatic Zone in particular through different permanent as well as time bound research schemes. At present department has the following five research Schemes.
(1) Scheme for Research Study in Agricultural Economics ( B.H. 5018)
(2) Expansion of Research In Agricultural Economics (B. H. 10018)
(3) Farm Cost Studies (B. H. 5018-1) (Collaborative Research Project)
(4) The Scheme for Creating Permanent Machinery for Studying the Cost of cultivation/ Production of Principal Crops Grown in Gujarat State (B. H. 18053) (Collaborative Research Project)
(5) Establishment of WTO Cell at Anand (B.H.10946)
- Extension Activities:
Under WTO cell activities, the department has been organizing one-day training programmes for farmers, entrepreneurs, extension workers etc. on related fields of agriculture, livestock, poultry, and fishery enterprises. The department has been organizing state/regional/ national level seminars. The faculty has been delivering talks/lectures at different institutes.
Publication:
The staff of the department publishes research articles in national and international journals. They also publish popular articles in English as well as in Gujarati language through different magazines.
Future plans/ thrust areas:
To carry out the studies on economic aspects of agricultural and its allied field at micro as well as macro level.
- To propose the multi disciplinary projects to establish ideal production module in agriculture and allied sector.
