• To carry out effectively the tobacco improvement programmes through co-ordination of multidisciplinary research   

   by a team of scientists including plant breeders, entomologist, pathologist, virologist, chemist, physiologist,  

   agronomist, and nematologist.

• To facilitate for exchange of technology, seeds and conduct trials on various varieties and hybrid derivatives.

• To evolve high yielding varieties with qualitative traits and low health risk factors.

• To evolve integrated management measures for diseases and insect pests.

• To multiply and distribute genuine and pure seeds and seedlings of improved varieties of bidi tobacco and other 

   tobacco types evolved at the station.

• To transfer production technologies pertaining to tobacco, tobacco based and alternate crops to tobacco.
