Name of the new project INFRASTRUCTURE DEVELOPMENT FOR QUALITY SEED PRODUCTION AND PLANTING MATERIAL AT RESEARCH FARMS OF ANAND AGRICULTURAL UNIVERSITY, SPECIALLY CHHARODI, DEROL, KANKANPUR AND ANAND
Objectives / aims of the project
  • Supply of sufficient quantity of breeder and foundation seeds for further multiplication to the indentors.
  • Supply of quantity seeds of improved varieties of different food grain crops and forage crops to the farmers.
  • Production of quality seeds, planting material of vegetable and horticultural crops for farming community.
Brief note of the project
  • Seed is the basic input in agriculture production.
  • The prices for any produce are largely dependent on quality of the produce, and the quality of the produce is solely dependent on availability of quality seeds and genetic purity of seeds.
  • In spite of inherent ability of a improved variety / hybrids deteriorated or spurious seeds certainly result in poor yield and inferior quality of produce.
  • The seed replacement rate for most of the cultivated crop in Gujarat is below 20 per cent. It is still poor with self pollinated crops and for most of the pulse crops.
